| Am I right in gleaning that: If a car costs £90,000 or £260,000 and regardless of engine cc or CO2 gpkm emmission levels it makes no difference to the tax a driver will pay. The 40% value peaks out at £11,200 even in 2008/9. Is this so? |

|
| You are correct. See the Tax Efficient Cars page to see how tax efficient expensive vehicles can be. It is the same for all cars costing £80k plus, since they are all in the 35% CO2 bracket |

| The Alpina D3 Touring has a CO2 emissions figure of 160 in the manufacturers brochure therefore tax rate for 2007-8 is 22% not 28% as shown on your website |

| Alpina have not officially tested any vehicles in the UK, and you won't find them on the VCA website. Therefore we have used the rates based on the engine size. We have informed the VCA and Alpina of this problem, but I suspect the Alpina marketing dept has got carried away with some German derived figures. Let us know if anyone manages to get the German figures printed on a V5. In the meantime we will follow the official rules and show the safest figures. |
| Thankyou for your quick and informative reply. I have bought one on the basis that it was relatively cheap on the Company car tax (and fun to drive) so will be extremely disappointed if what the dealer told me (160gms) is not correct - I would have got the 330d Touring on this basis. Your email has been forwarded to the Alpina UK head office and I am awaiting an answer. I have looked at the V5 and there are no details recorded for CO2 emissions |

| On your tax calculator for hybrid petrol/electric cars (e.g. Toyota Prius, Honda Civic IMA) are you sure you've got BIK % multiplier correct for 2008/9 & beyond? From 08/09, 120 g/km of CO2 will equate to a 10% BIK & so the 3% discount for these hybrids will make for a 7% BIK, not the 10% on your calculator? |

|
| Our calculations are correct. The new 10% banding (and 13% for diesels) is a special case and does not follow the previous rules. For instance cars on 122gCO2 do not get rounded down to be included. There is no additional discount for hybrids, since this is a technology neutral measure to encourage the take up of low emission cars. |

| Does the tax on the BMW 1 Series 5dr 118d M Sport really fall from 18% to 13% from 07/08 to 08/09? If so, why? |
31-07-2007
|
| The government introduced a special low tax banding for cars emitting up to 120g CO2/km to encourage their take up. Petrol cars also fall to 10% |

| The NCAP rating stated for the Clio Campus is 5 star however the Campus is based on the mark II Clio which is only 4 star (as I understand their position from my research into the car) |

| That makes sense, we will correct the error. Thankyou for pointing it out. |
