Mercedes price reductions
R Russell
January 2009
Company car drivers will see a real reduction in company car tax on most E-Class and CLKs, as well as some C-Class engines. Instead of just offering time-limited discounts, outgoing models are seeing substantial reductions on the price list from 2nd January 2009. Discounts are not taken into account when calculating company car tax, but the full official price list is. Manufacturers prefer to offer discounts in the hope that these will be less damaging on residual values, and this has become a major frustration for company drivers. We have seen some smaller price reductions in the past, but these new pricing actions are by far the most significant ever seen in recent years. It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers that claim to target company car drivers follow this policy. Shall we now see the end of big cashback offers by other manufacturers who are surprised that user/choosers don't go for their offerings?
The price reductions are now on the site. On E-Class and CLK there is no premium for higher grades or automatic, so for instance all 8 versions of the E 200 K saloons are priced at £27558, representing a big saving on higher specced models. Also options including metallic paint, leather, COMAND and APS50 are now at zero cost for many models. Elsewhere you'll see that the C-Class C220CDI and C230 automatics are reduced by the cost of the auto element.
